One of the great things about being South Asian is that we grew up surrounded by a huge family. We lived with our grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Extended family members always dropped in… often unannounced!
But, everyone was welcome.

Amidst such a large gathering, there had to be something holding all of these different personalities together. Something there to smooth things over when temperatures arose, something that would kickstart the mornings, something to break the silence, and something to soothe whenever it was needed. I’m sure you have no guesses as to what that something was.
Yes–that something was Chai!
Tea Time was always celebrated–tea preceded everything! We would have tea at breakfast. There would be tea at brunch, and then there would be tea after lunch! There would be tea in the evening and we always had tea after dinner.
Tea Time would come with all sorts of playful games as well. We would guess the time of day by the cup of tea that was being made. But perhaps the best use of tea was that it was easy to gauge your mother’s mood with what kind of tea she would be drinking! Depending on the tea, you knew whether it was safe to approach her, or if you needed to hide out for a bit…
Some of my fondest memories are of watching the adults in my house sitting together at breakfast laughing and sharing the excitement for the day over tea. Tea had such a positive effect on marking each day with a new beginning. Those memories are one of many that inspired me to create Chai Diaries.
My mission at Chai Diaries is to provide you with a cup of tea that inspires you to pause and reset. Your mood, your time, your day, could have all gotten chased away by someone else’s chaos.
Our tea helps you reclaim your calm within the chaos.
Our tea helps you to live in the moment.
Our tea ensures that your mind will feel refreshed, allowing you to move forward with purpose.

Hugs x Chai,
Ami
